HIP HOP POETRY
Greetings all. Welcome to our second installment of the Hip Hop Poetry Jam. I hope you all enjoyed last week’s guest Mr. E-40. We have been getting a lot of feedback [some good-most bad] regarding the content of Mr. 40’s poem. Some said it was crude, others thought it was hilarious. Either way I’m pleased that you took time out of your busy lives to actually read something. Today we are going to go in a different more conscious direction than last week’s entry. Not saying that we’ll not be going down that road in the future; just not right now.
Our guest today is Mr. David Banner. A few years ago he was a special guest on the controversial Nas “Untitled” album. On the last song called Middle Finger Mr. Banner dropped more hot shit that a fat man after a chili eating contest. In my opinion he bested Nas on his own damn track. Then again that is my opinion. I’ll let you be the judge!

Greetings all.
Sean and I strive to bring our loyal subscribers the best in online entertainment. The two of us have racked our heads trying to come up new ways to keep you smiling. After two twelve packs, a bottle of patron and countless dead brain cells we’ve come up with the following. Every few weeks Sean and I will select a rap song with lyrics that are a bit out there. We understand that some listeners may not fully be able to absorb the knowledge and wisdom that is being pumped out of their speakers/headphones. To combat the rampant ADHD that is plaguing America we will write out said lyrics so that you can read them at your leisure. Our first entry is one of my personal favorites; E-40’s classic track "Rules & Regulations” Read how Mr. 40 deals with the lethal combination of being rich and having a chemical dependency.

I have never been an advocate of the U.S. school system. Only because I felt that most of what we learn we will not use in adult life. My problem has never been school was too hard, my problem was... "when am I ever going to use this in real life?" Though I see the need to have a degree in order to be taken seriously in a career, I feel that the education system in certain parts of out wonderful country is lacking when it comes to really rounding out the children they are teaching.

This high school student really broke it down in her valedictorian speech and I hope the powers that be are listening.

Some say that hip hop has lost it's way. If we go by what we see on the TV and hear on the radio we can't help but to agree. I still feel good knowing that I could dig through my old tapes and vinyls and find gems that can never be reproduced. Another year another black girl lost. Not taking away from the tragedies of other cultures but it's just hard for me to sit back and watch people with great opportunities and talent wither away into almost nothing. I am not saying that there is no way she can recover from this. I am saying to watch it happen is a disgrace. I am actually disgusted as I watch, even though I sympathize because I do not know the situations that landed her in this position. I can not even say this could never happen to me because I do not know the circumstances in which it began but I do know that I would fight it. By watching this video you can tell she just gave up. She does not care anymore and that is it. I also wonder what happened to her friends and family, did they turn her back on her or she on them. It's disturbing to think there was no one in her camp that could stop this from getting to this point. It also obvious the dudes around her does not care either. I pray for you Maia Campbell and I hope everything works out in your favor. That evil spirit that haunts you is a motherfucker but don't let it kill you at a young age.

Well I have been a football fan for a few years now. My favorite team, the NY Giants. It's sad when you see some of your favorite players go but it is what it is. You go through a range of emotions before you finally accept it. Anger, dissapointment and so on. 3 of my favorite playes from the G-Men are not there anymore, but it's really not affecting the team so I just learned to let it go... I had to say goodbye to Barber, Shockey and Straham. They are gone but the G-Men are still #1 in their conference.

Now let's talk about this season. WTF is going on Miami beat New England, Washington beat Dallas, Brett Favre and Coles ripped Arizona a new A-hole. Houston and Jacksonville play into overtime. I am just hoping the G-Men go 4-0 next week when they play Seattle. I mean, my fantasy team is 4-0, I would love to run a gambit and start putting some money on the G-Men.

Jay-Z Sued Over 'I Will Not Lose' Name

Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z and Iconix Brand Group, owner of Rocawear Clothing, are being sued in federal court on copyright infringement charges.

The case was filed last Thursday (September 18) in Georgia Northern District Court by I Will Not Lose, LLC, a company claiming that Iconix Brand Group and Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, adopted the exact same “I Will Not Lose” trademark.

Last March, Jay-Z sold the rights for Rocawear to Iconix Brand Group for $204 million.

Despite this, Carter is also named in the suit as it is believed by the plaintiff that he continues to oversee the product development, licensing, and marketing of Rocawear.

Last year, Rocawear launched an international “I Will Not Lose Campaign,” (www.iwillnotlose.org) where stars such as Chris Brown and Ciara gave accounts of how they overcame personal challenges before reciting the trademarked phrase “I Will Not Lose.”

I Will Not Lose, LLC (www.iwillnotlose.net) CEO Reggie Tucker alleges in the lawsuit that his company trademarked the brand first and were subsequently ignored throughout 2007 after attempts were made to settle the matter out of court.

The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages for the dilution of their trademark.

At press time calls to attorneys representing I Will Not Lose, LLC were not returned and Jay-Z could not be reached for comment.

Rap group Public Enemy's iconic track "Fight the Power" has topped a poll of the 100 Greatest hip-hop songs in history.

The 1989 track, the video for which was directed by Spike Lee, took top spot on the new list compiled by music channel VH1.

"Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang scored second place on the list, with Dr. Dre's "Nuthin But A 'G' Thang" coming in at number three.

The poll's top five definitive hip-hop songs was rounded out by Run-DMC's Walk This Way collaboration with Aerosmith and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's "The Message."

The complete 100 track countdown will be aired on VH1 next month in preparation for the channel's annual Hip-Hop Honors show on October 6.

Rapper Busta Rhymes has been refused entry into the U.K. because of "unresolved convictions" in his native U.S.

The hip-hop heavyweight was detained at London's City Airport on Thursday morning.

Immigration officials tried to put him on an immediate flight out of the country to Amsterdam, Holland but Rhymes' lawyer secured an injunction preventing the move.

The 36-year-old is now being held while officials debate whether to let him enter the U.K.

Rhymes - real name Trevor Smith - has previous convictions for drunk driving and assault.

He is due to play for 5,000 fans at a charity gig at the city's prestigious Royal Albert Hall on Friday.

Soul star John Legend and rock bands Feeder, The Automatic and Guillemots are also due to appear at the Orange RockCorps event.

Fellow rapper Ludacris is being flown in from the U.S. as a last-minute replacement if Rhymes is not allowed entry.

Rhymes was allowed into the U.K. to launch the event last month which saw him helping to pick up litter in London. He also performed at the Midnight Madness basketball event in the city.

Stephen Greene, the co-founder of RockCorps, says he was "shocked at this sequence of events and this treatment of Busta."

He adds, "He has the necessary work-permit and has been in the country twice already this year, so we're a little puzzled that a question mark is now being placed over his ability to enter the country to perform to volunteers."

It is said that every year only three to four percent of the total population on earth are courageous enough to start on their own. Out of that, I think only one percent successfully establish their business while the rest join the ever growing list of failed entrepreneurs.

Although every business requires a specific skill set and related domain knowledge, there are some general qualities which you must develop if you want to get going in any business. I say 'develop' and not 'have' because I don't think these skills are rocket science and if you've got the willingness, you can easily develop them and carry on your business in a better manner.

Be A Visionary
Yeah, I know what you are thinking. Here comes the first cliche; I'll agree. But when I say be a visionary, I don't mean you should have grand visions right from the start. There should be a definite goal in your mind and you should work towards achieving that goal. You could always start with small goals initially and every time you achieve them, set yourself new challenges. And soon you'll find that you've got a vision, a vision which you never thought you could achieve and now, it suddenly seems possible.

Be Adaptable
Now here's the thing - you develop a strategy and start working towards your goal. But the world's changing everyday and soon you realize that the strategy isn't working. In this case, you should immediately adapt to the changes and adopt new methods of working while keeping your vision intact.

Mix Passion With Planning
If you aren't passionate enough, chances of your succeeding in your business are slim. But if you get carried away by passion, that's equally harmful for your work. Hence the idea is to mix passion and enthusiasm with planning and execution.

Communicate Like A Pro
It's not only about talking to the other person or to your client. It's about every form of communication, be it on phone, through email, through a letter or any other way of sending your thoughts across. Effective communication is one of the must have leadership skills and if you think you aren't very good at this, prepare to learn how to communicate in the most effective manner, convince others and get more business.

Network Like A Pro
Another essential ingredient for success in business. Identify the right people and establish relationships which are long lasting. Apart from helping you in your business, these relationships can also help in your personal life.

Be Aggressive
Being aggressive doesn't mean you are always pumped up and blindly grab every opportunity that comes in your way. It means you are ready to take risks, sometimes calculated and sometimes out of your gut-feeling. It means you aren't satisfied with an achievement and are hungry for more. It means you are available 24X7 for your work. And yes, it also means you are ready to make sacrifices when required.

Be Persistent
Without a doubt, persistence is a must-have trait for anyone who hopes to make it big in his business. So what exactly is persistence? Here's how Seth Godin defines it:
"Persistence isn't using the same tactics over and over. That's just annoying. Persistence is having the same goal over and over."Do Things Differently
That's what winners do, isn't it ? Apply new techniques and tricks to an already existing business model instead of trying to search for that new idea. You'll save time. ( And this is what I've been trying to do with this article too I guess :)

Learn Everyday
Really, the learning never stops when you are self employed. And you should never let it stop either. No matter how big your business grows, you should keep learning everyday and apply new techniques to make your business better.

Never Be Complacent
If organizations like Enron and WorldCom can bite the dust then anything can happen. No business, absolutely no business can be considered fool-proof. One mistake and the empire could crumble. Complacency is usually the first step towards this destruction. So better not be complacent.

What Is Business Networking, Anyway?
It's more than showing up and shaking hands; it's about being proactive.

Business networking is leveraging your business and personal connections to bring you a regular supply of new business. The concept sounds simple, doesn't it? Don't let that fool you, though. Because it involves relationship building, it can be a deceptively complex process.

Think about it. How many people do you know? How many of these people truly understand what you do? How many of these folks have directed prospects to you as referrals? And how many of those referrals have actually turned into business?

Business networking is much more than showing up at networking functions, shaking a
lot of hands and collecting a bunch of cards.

For example, imagine two people attending an event, sizing it up and drawing an imaginary line down the middle. They separate, each taking half the room. At the end of the event, they meet again to see who's collected the most business cards.

Have you met these people? Sure you have. We all have. What did they accomplish? They collected a lot of cards that will end up on a shelf, in a drawer, in the trash, or--worse yet--scanned into a computer so they can spam everyone they just met. Why? What does a business card represent? It's a piece of paper, with ink and images on it. No relationship has been formed. This networking strategy, by itself, isn't an effective use of time, money or energy.

Some people get frustrated with networking because they seem to be making as much progress as a rear-wheel-drive truck on an icy hill: one foot forward, 10 feet back--getting nowhere fast.

Networking for business growth must be strategic and focused. Not everyone you meet can help move your business forward--but everything you do can be driven by the intention to grow your business. You have total control over whom you meet, where you meet them and how you develop and leverage relationships for mutual benefit. You have total control over whether you enter into the unique 29 percent of the population that is separated by six degrees (read The 29% Solution to learn more), whether you stay there, or whether you never get there at all.

Networking your business means you have to be proactive. The core of networking is doing something specific each week that is focused on networking for business growth. Make a plan, focus and be consistent. So after being on a year hiatus from blogging, I decided to return. I know, I know... you have heard this before... who knows how often or how many times I will be on here but here is the update to the Why I Need To Make That Paper blog.

Well in doing all my networking and hanging out, I finally met some young black professionals who are doing it big and doing it right. I like them, they like me. I have always concluded that I was in the wrong profession but never did anything about it. Well I think it is time. Based on what I have been hearing lately, I should be in Sales or Event Planning. Of course I prefer the latter, that is definitely up my alley.

I seize every moment I can to meet people and I finally met the right ones. So here is where I take control of my destiny and become the Ultimate.

Why I Need To Make That Paper

Good Afternoon All. Today is a new day... and it's been a few weeks since I wrote a blog. Blogs are your friends ya' heard. This is my therapy. Yes my lady will be a psychologist in a year or so, but really, am I gonna go to her with all my BS.... hardly.
Today I would like to talk about money and my lack there of. Knowing that people are in the same situation I am in or worse does not make me feel better about it. It just shows me that I need to do more and work harder in order not to get any worse. I really do no want to end up the...

I have to pause for a minute here. I wanted to use a word that I have used in the past and have also heard it said many of times. I don't want to seem dumb nor do I want to use words incorrectly so I decided I would do a word search.

exstistential - came up on my google search, but there is no definition for it in the dictionary. blah. I will move on now.

... quintessential "angry black man", but sometimes I feel like the hand is forcing me to become what I don't want to be. I move with positivity. I go with the flow. Things happen or they don't.

But... now I feel its time for me to grab the horse by the reigns, or is it the bull by the horns. Whatever it is I need to do my own thing and I am moving towards things that I love to do, so I will keep all posted on my choices and new situations as they progress.

How the Days Come

Ok so today is pretty boring at work and so this means it is blogging time.

Today's topic is relationships.

I am in a great relationship with a wonderful young lady. She is everything I wanted in someone I would spend the rest of my life with (give or take some aspects). Two things that she lacks and I thought would be a big deal is that she does not know hip hop or movies like I do. The reason why I ended up loving that about her more than not is because I get to share a lot more of myself with her.

With this one, I feel I have been given a chance to do better, be a much greater man. She is strong, which in turn makes me strong. She is focused and it makes me focused. Though our paths are different, we are definitely finding some middle ground to meet up and reach the a similar goal including raising a family and being involved in something to help minority communities.

With that said. Let me list my personal gripes that I have with myself and maybe I will be able to work on them if I can see them in front of me.
1) I am not stable (mentally or financially). Emotionally I think I am good, not the best, but good.
2) I am broke.
3) I procrastinate.
4) I am scatterbrained. There are so many things I want to do and yet I find no time to do them. Which leads me to my next issue.
5) Problems with prioritizing.

Well there are the 5 main points that I need to work on in order to build a stable and worthwhile future with the one I adore.

My future blogs will still be random but in them I hope I will be able to speak on how I am coming along with fixing these issues within myself.

Movie Binging

So I saw four movies this past weekend and only paid for 2. Even used my student discount, th0ugh I have not been a real student for years now. So let's begin with the reviews.

1st movie I saw was Live Free or Die Hard (or as I like to call it Die Hard 4)

Was this a good movie? Well I liked it, but I am a weird guy like that. Lots of unrealistic action but I did like the story line. Should John be dead? Yes he should. Anyone going through some of the things he went through should at least be in a coma by the end of the movie. I think I liked it because it was better than I expected (unrealistic as it was)

The next day I did a double movie deal
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

If nothing else, this movie was dope because of the Silver Surfer. I would like to have seen Galactus, but I guess they spent their special effects budget doing a great job of bringing the Silver Surfer to life. I can't really tell you much about the movie even though I just saw it the other day, except that I didn't like Jessica Alba's hair, it seemed like a character on it's own. The Fantastic Four was a lot cornier than in the first one. I never really followed The Fantastic Four as a kid so I can't tell you much about story line and all that, but I would recommend it as a movie to bring your child to, if you have one that is.

Knocked Up

Funny, funny funny. Very funny. This movie is hilarious, the guys from 40 year old virgin did a great job. I would love to see this movie again and I can't wait for Superbad to come out.

And last but not least.
Transformers

Being a fan of the original script from the T.V. cartoon series I was a tad bit disappointed with the new story line. I was also a little perturbed with the fact that they focused so much on the humans and not the bots like the original Cartoon. I did like the comedy and action. The special effects were dope, but why does Optimus Prime has flames on him... that is not marketable to me.
Also, Megatron is not the same either... and well the Black Robot, you know Jazz... let's just say he doesn't make it. WTF? All in all, I like the human characters... they were funny and kept me interested in their story line. Bernie Mack and Anthony Anderson were pretty good. I think they should have killed Tyrese in the beginning, but that is just me hating. That white girl Mikaela or however you spell her name... she was pretty cute, but who cares I wanted to see robots ripping each other apart. The movie also seemed to be a 2 and a half hour product placement jump off.
I also hear that the people responsible for this story line are working on G.I. Joe the live action film. I wanted to see it until I heard that, but I will anyway. I also hear that most of the characters are going to be different. I am beginning to think they are making these movies more for profit than nostalgia, or maybe they are just targeting a younger audience and trying to bring these old time characters and cartoons to life for a new generation.

Anyway, those are my reviews for today... I hope you all enjoyed.

insomnia is a motha

So it's almost 2:30 a.m. and I have to be in to work in 6 hours, why your boy not sleepin'? I have no idea. But anyway, as I sit here a song is playing over and over in my head.

As I sit back relax, steam a blunt, sip a Beck's, think about the sexy singers that I want to sex.

Now I know this is definitely not a blog to enhance my writing ability. Not by any means... In fact I was going to write about Biggie, but then I said to myself "who are the sexy singers on your list Mr. Slick?" Well, if we are just talking singers here, let me just say that to me it gets no better that the young lady below. Of course that is just my opinion.

This lady has been on my list since my young years. Her voice is just magnificent. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should have a Sade album even it is the best of... go out and get it. I don't think you will find a better mood setter since Barry White. In fact, I don't feel I need to go on with this blog, or list any other sexy singers.

In other news, I am looking to find some refreshing music (hip hop). The last album I picked up was Black Milk's. I am about to go get that Pharoah Monch and I think Talib is dropping some new fire from what I hear, but I really need some new artists that are dope. I mean I just can't keep filling up my cd collections with native tongues alumni and OKP artists. I don't listen to the radio and I don't have cable... but I really doubt those 2 mediums would help find the kind of music I am looking for. Any suggestions my fellow bloggers.

Oh and you got drop some love about Sade also...

As I jump into this blogger scene a day late and a dollar short, I am reminded of how much I used to blog previously to this year. Where did I find the time? I mean MySpace, MSN Spaces, Yahoo, OKP, and HipHopPoetry.com. I was all over the place. I love to write, so I think this is where I am going to start laying down that hot sh*t.
